Resting up

This week for me has meant hours and hours and hours with my leg elevated up in bed. Lets just say it has been quite an adjustment for everyone. The kids have just brought all their meals, books and games  in to my bed to keep me company. They  also brought  a good share of dirty feet, crumbs and whinges  in here too.

The kitchen company finally reappeared ( six weeks after we moved home) with the range hood box cover to be installed. They seemed to have completely forgotten about the two missing drawers that have still not reappeared and left with vague mutterings of coming back with the rest next week. Now I have heard that before, say about six times, so we'll see.

Still, even a little progress is exciting when there is not much else going on. There is still shelving to be installed above the window and a final coat of paint but it is slowly getting there.

In the meantime I have been distracting myself from the state of the house with well placed floral arrangements from my mum. I call this one "Still life with gladioli and yellow painting trestle".

I made a start on some crochet  triangle bunting, which I plan to embellish with  some daisies from a  Mollie Makes pattern.

I finished the hand sewing for my foxy pillow and  am itching to be able to sit up at the sewing machine, but am trying very hard to be patient.

The kids have been busy too. An animal research station (heavily inspired by the Octopod) from the boy. Each animal has its own habitat and food supply. Always sensible when you have carnivores in the mix.

A camera from my kindy girl ( she'll be wanting her own blog next).

And is that bunting I spy in a new drawing? I did have grand plans to sew some before a certain five year old birthday, in only a few weeks. This time of year everything seems to speed up, meanwhile I'm just here snailing my way along, writing long lists and trying not to get panicky.

Finally after eight days, I can actually walk without it being a major problem. This week I have realised how grateful I am for my legs. While they are not long or slender, and neither are my feet I might add, they generally do their job very well of getting me around and about, on my bike, or a scooter, up ladders painting and bouncing around on the trampoline with my kids. I had been a bit dismissive of these  good, sensible, reliable friends and I will never take them for granted again.

  1. Hi Mel, I hope you keep taking it easy no matter how frustrating it is - okay. Listen to your Doc's orders. And that's an order. Your pale minty lights shades looks so lovely in your kitchen, and your Mum's gladdie still life is absolutely beautiful. I've never seen gladdies in that colour-way(?) before. Our kitchen is still not finished either. The tiles have arrived from Byron Bay, but the tiler won't lay them until he is working on bathroom and laundry - and those rooms have been delayed because we have had two (that's TWO) damaged baths delivered! The third one better be in good nick - that's all I'll say. Take care Mel x

    1. Yes Miss Kylie ( I can hear the bossy tone in your words, you know the one I normally use when you decide to stop blogging). The gladdies were two bunches, one orange one yellow as mum couldn't choose and they were $5 each so who needs to! Gawd over the baths, we had to replace Legoman's ridiculously expensive tap as the first one was damaged, now the replacement isn't working properly three weeks after installation. Incredible isn't it? I had no idea you were doing bathroom and laundry too, fingers crossed all goes smoothly for you. mel x

  2. Loving all the pretty blooms and crafting goodness happening over at Betsy - you guys are such a creative bunch. Those small snippets of your kitchen are making me very envious - I hope your are loving it! I made a last minute decision to change the cover on our R/Hood (which was initially specified from the architect) from S/Steel to white, so I'm guessing it will look very similar to yours. Hope you're back up on your feet soon. xx

    1. I had a SS rangehood in the last reno and while it was gorgeous, it was constantly covered in a film of oily dust and a pain to keep clean hence the white this time. Your kitchen is going to be beautiful, cannot wait to see it unfold- at the rate we are going, ours will probably be finished the same time as yours! mel x

    2. Totally agree about the S/S - I have suffered the same cleaning woes + I think white looks better anyway. If you get sick of crocheting, get yourself onto Instagram - you can waste HEAPS of time there. xx

  3. I love the animal research centre and that she thought to include a cheery bunting in her drawing.
And I agree...I never realised how much I relied on my body to do what I need it to do until it decided to take a little break.
I hope that you continue to get well!

  8. How frustrating it must be to be bed bound, though I bet you came up with some wonderful ideas for your nearly finished reno, crafting, and Christmas gifts.
Your kitchen bench tops are looking stunning. x

    1. Thanks Zara, I'm afraid I do not make a very good patient as usually I barely sit down let alone lie in bed, I keep getting in trouble from both my mum and my husband. mel x

  9. We really must get these two together one day when there is time and before they are forty! Mine is five next March and I disbelieving that she can actually be going to school next year. Funny how a shock can change your whole outlook isn't it? Take care, rest and be week for holidays!

    1. Yes we should get the gals together, goodness knows when though at the rate this year is flying by. I am never very organised for Christmas but this year I'm particularly behind with everything. Oh well, at least I can walk for prep orientation this week! mel x

  11. I'm new to your blog, and love it already. Betsy is looking gorgeous, even in the midst of renovations. I will be reading your blog with a degree of envy as we're not in a position to live in our "forever" home yet due to my husbands work. Hoping your leg recovers quickly, and those kitchen drawers turn up soon.......!

    1. Thanks for popping over and saying Hi. Betsy is actually looking pretty shocking at present, just trying to get a decent pic is problematic but I am busy crocheting away to avoid looking at the peeling walls and missing bits of kitchen. I spent three years in our last house searching and longing for the right house so we could move and wish I had come across the saying "Bloom where you are planted" as it may have helped me at the time. You can create magical memories for your girls no matter where you live and truth be told the kids probably had more fun in this house before the reno as they could trash the floors and the deck and it didn't matter! mel x

  12. Love the beautiful artwork by both the kids - so creative! I think the most frustrating aspect of any build is trying to get people to complete their bits. I remember well finishing our bathroom in Melbourne, and the impossibility of getting our plumber back to fit off the fittings. We had a perfect, fully painted and tiled bathroom, and in the end a glass shower screen... but no actual shower! It drove me up the wall - we were still using the disgusting bathroom that was akin to being outside (and that I wore thongs in the shower as it was so bad).
Hope the leg mends soon, and that the kitchen people do their job! The flowers at least look pretty fab in the new spaces xx

  13. You've been very industrious! Loving your Foxy and of course all the crafty stuff the Kids have created. Betsy is looking so white and shiny and I'm loving all the blooms - Gladdies are so underrated but I love them. Hope the legs are back in normal working condition soon but otherwise rest as much as you can - the Christmas craziness will be here before we know it :-) Mel xxx.

  14. Writing long lists and trying not to get panicky - hmm, I can identify with that. From now until New Year always seems to go on fast forward for us. I'm so glad to hear you've been able to walk a little. It's progress. I am loving the daisies on grey bunting by the way, very nice. xx

  16. Aaaahhhh. Just wrote you a long comment then pressed the wrong button, when I went back it had gone. Anyway, love those lampshades, glad you're feeling better, annoying when the men don't come back and do the last wee bits and you have to nag. Think that sums up my lovely comments! Take care and don't rush to jump up too soon , Katie x

  24. I LOVE your benchtops! We are in the process of picking ours and keep getting warned away from marble but there is one expert telling us that it is not a problem! I am thinking a shaker style (white) with the marble. Have also found a blue/grey granite I love too. Your kitchen looks fab and that green is my favourite colour. Well done!
